Destination writing retreats focusing on personal essay and memoir.
Each 3-4-day retreat will be held in a luxurious locale and include expert writing instruction and cultural excursions to explore the area. Writing sessions will be held on the beach, by the fire, in small groups and one-on-one. There will be ample time for personal reflection with fine dining and social events unique to the setting.
No cookie-cutter approaches; no predetermined outcomes.
Guiding us on our journey will be creative coaches, motivational speakers, and noted published authors. Pre-arrangements for private fitness sessions, nature walks, and morning meditation will enable the emerging writer to create something new each and every time they come to the page.

“From Memory to Memoir: Finding the Words to Tell Your Story”
September 15-18, 2011
Morrison House
Historic Old Town Alexandria, Virginia
You’ve found the letters. You’ve heard the stories. You’ve discovered the truth. You journal one day but not the next. You look for answers. You see a theme.
These memories, these bits and pieces of our lives, are what make great stories.
The launch of Creativity in Plume Writing Retreats will be at the historic Morrison House in the heart of Old Town Alexandria, Virginia. Accomplished authors in personal essay and memoir will lead workshops on researching your ideas and the structure, voice and arc of storytelling. An opening wine reception, guided tours and author dinner are included.

Journaling Workshops — “The Write Way to Good Health”
Personal reflection through journal writing is a powerful tool for self-discovery and insight into one’s health and wellbeing. Whether it’s career pursuits, financial concerns, personal relationships, or any other thing that keeps you tossing and turning at night, putting your thoughts into words on a blank piece of paper can be beneficial to your health. It’s one of the easiest ways you can imagine to find the rhythm of your own life and plan for the future.
This 3-hour workshop incorporates guided journal writing with a leisure walk through the place of your choice. Beside the waterfront. Along cobbled-stoned streets. On a hiking trail or historical tour.

Persuasive Writing Techniques for Health Advocates
Persuasive writing is more than reporting facts and quoting statistics. It’s a unique form of storytelling that blends credible information and current issues with a personal, well-received, clear message. Stakeholders across the health care industry – patients, payers, providers, policy-makers – are increasingly challenged to manage the information on health reform coming from Washington and translating it those who represent their interests.
This half-day or full-day workshop explores the art of persuasive writing, providing tips and working examples to improve your speechwriting, Congressional testimony, public comments, op/eds, white papers, and blogs. Insights from other industries — consumer publications, TV and screen, public affairs, lobbying and social media — are used for illustration.
